Voice Banking is for anyone whose voice may change: with ALS (MND), before an operation on the mouth or throat, or through illness. You record your voice now, we keep it safe, and you can use it to speak by typing, in Voice Studio, on calls with Type-to-Call and in other apps. It is one of the Studio Apps.
The session
- It takes 5 to 10 minutes. You read about 30 short sentences out loud. It saves as you go, so you can pause and finish later.
- Use a quiet room. A headset microphone sounds best, but your computer's microphone works too. A Microphone check comes first.
- Pick the language you speak most; it decides how the voice is built.
- You confirm that you have the right to use the voice. Only you can do this, so it is not available while an administrator views your account.
- Helping someone record? Sit with them, and stay quiet while they read.
After each sentence you see whether it sounded good, or was too loud or distorted, and you can record it again. Once you have recorded enough, you can finish early and make your voice. Reading the rest keeps more of you for future voice engines.
What it costs
50,000 credits (about $5), once, the same as cloning a voice. It is charged when you start and is not refundable, but there is no rush: take breaks and finish any time. It needs a first credit purchase (or a paid plan) and a verified email.
Afterwards
Your banked voice is in Voices, under My voices. Only you can use it. You can download your recordings whenever you like.
